Grad Student Dies Days After Being Struck While Cycling In Northwest DC, Police Say

A 24-year-old bicyclist in Northwest DC has died from his injuries at an area hospital days after being struck by a car, officials say.

Nijad Huseynov has been identified by members of the Metropolitan Police Department as the person who was killed while biking around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, according to authorities.

Police say that Huseynov was biking east in the 1700 block of L Street NW in the bicycle lane when he crossed Connecticut Avenue NW and was struck by a Toyota Camry, ejecting him from the bike.

Huseynov, a graduate student studying at ADA University studying Master of Science in Computer Science and Data Analytics, was rushed to an area hospital, where he died over the weekend.

Khazar Ibrahim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbbaijan to the US also took to social media to remember Huseynov.

"Nijad was very impressive from the first meeting I had a privilege to have with him and his classmates," he wrote.My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

"Allah rəhmət eləsin!" 

The crash remains under investigation.
